Diesel engine maintenance and engineering works on Saint Petersburg data center power equipment

In September 2019, in the framework of major power equipment repair, Techexpo specialists provided extended annual maintenance services for a diesel engine of a dynamic uninterruptible power source (UPS) of a large data center in Saint Petersburg.

Moreover, construction and installation works were carried out to replace the generator and kinetic accumulator with new ones. 

This summer we provided dynamic UPS-2 installation services. We removed the roof, dismounted the generator and kinetic accumulator off the unit.

To get to dynamic UPS-1 and carry out maintenance work on the diesel engine we dismounted the power equipment once again. To do this, the load was transferred from dynamic UPS-1 to dynamic UPS-2, the hatch was removed, kinetic accumulator and free-running coupling were removed off the dynamic UPS-1 frame. A new generator and kinetic module were delivered, which we installed on the diesel dynamic UPS frame.

The need for scheduled engine maintenance became necessary after half a year of operation. We ran a diagnostic on the engine, replaced the drive belt of the generator drive, checked fuel nozzles and renewed gaskets and seals. Necessary materials and spare parts were delivered from the company’s warehouse.

Additionally, the maintenance of the engine cooling system, oil-priming pump and fuel consumed tank was provided:

• Cleaning the overflow tank, discharging and disposing the antifreeze;
• Filling the coolant system with an antifreeze substance (1500 liters), leakage check;
• Replacing temperature regulators;
• Inspecting and cleaning the internal cavity of coolant preheater including hose replacement;
• Inspecting combustor chambers with an endoscope, reporting;
• Checking and cleaning the fuel consumed tank, replacing hoses (5 pcs.), cleaning fire-extinguishing means;
• Replacing oil-priming pump hoses.

Upon completing maintenance, equipment was assembled and placed in the container, genset systems and components were connected.
