Modernization of three diesel gensets with SCADA and CNC system for timber production

In April 2022, the specialists of the Techexpo support unit modernized the equipment of three high-voltage diesel gensets in Krasnoyarsk Krai. The equipment was additionally equipped with an automated workstation for diagnosing, monitoring and visualizing the state of the diesel genset in real-time.

Three high-voltage DG by 1200 kW were delivered in 2019 and 2021 by Techexpo LLC to power industrial equipment of a timber factory in Krasnoyarsk Krai. 

A computer workstation to control and manage the DG is arranged in the operator's small power plant of the enterprise. Techexpo specialists developed a project to connect the existing diesel gensets to the workstation, installed and configured the equipment, and installed the necessary MSRT1K-NET software based on the MasterSCADA executive system.

MasterSCADA is one of the leading Russian SCADA and SoftLogic accounting and dispatching systems for industrial facilities, housing and public utilities and buildings. The use of a SoftLogic system allows both automation and dispatching of processes.

SCADA is a software suite designed to ensure the real-time operation of systems for collecting, processing, displaying and archiving information about a monitored or controlled object. SCADA systems provide operator control over technological processes in real-time.

The computer workstation receives information from the controllers of the diesel gensets. To develop a SCADA system, specialists set up automatic control panels of the diesel gensets – DEEP SEA DSE8610 controllers. To specify the readable parameters of the engine and generator, the firmware configuration of the DSE 8610 MKI control panels was obtained, the parameters for reading configuration parameters from the control panel were configured, and trends and event logs were developed.

The workstation installation allows monitoring the status of all equipment and fulfills the following functions:

• Visual and sound real-time display of the status of the diesel genset, its modes of operation, signaling falling of the measured parameters outside the range.
• Diesel genset control, including preparatory operations, start-up, regular and emergency stops, is carried out from the control panel in the operator's room. The diesel genset control functions from the workstation are maintained within the functionality of the SCADA system and are a backup control channel for the diesel genset.
• Diagnostics and monitoring of the diesel genset equipment status with the release of information to the operator on the necessary measures to maintain the diesel genset in working order and 24/7 uninterrupted synchronous operation of the diesel genset are provided.
• Archiving of controlled information for possible analytics

List of parameters, emergency events and control commands received from the control system controller of every DG for displaying information in the under-development SCADA system.
